Imagine writing novels about the intersection of sex and religious experience! Peggy Payne has done this in all three of her novels - Sister India, Revelation, and Cobalt Blue. I admire her writing so I was quite pleased when she asked me to participate in this blog tour. The topic of this tour is the role of intuition in writing and I can't wait to jump in.
Here are my answers to this blog tour's questions:
What Am I Working On?
Another project is the true story of young man who was the victim of a hit and run driver and sustained serious brain injury. Left for Dead - from Surviving to Thriving describes his inspirational story. I know this young man and this book is a real labor of love. I hope to have it out by summer.
I am also playing around with writing a version of the Earth Girl book that is told from a different character's point of view. A producer has expressed some interest in the original book as a movie told from this other point of view, so I thought I would fool around with this idea a bit and see what I come up with.
How Does My Work Differ from Others of Its Genre?
This is a really tricky question for me because after I finished I Call Myself Earth Girl, I realized that I did not know how to categorize it. Sort of science fiction, but not really like most science fiction... Sort of paranormal, but not really like most paranormal.... Sort of magical realism, but not really like most magical realism....Sort of spiritual in its essence, but nothing at all like most spiritual books. (Strangely it shot up to number one in the Angels category on Amazon for a brief time.) When I discovered a "new" genre - Visionary Fiction, I decided that was the closest fit.
I guess you could say it is science fiction without technology and aliens. It is paranormal without the current paranormal fascination with vampires, werewolves, and humans who are either romantically involved with them, or doing battle with them. It is magical realism without the acceptance of the supernatural elements as integral parts of life.
It does have an element of the supernatural and the mystical. It does play with time and it does ask the reader to suspend disbelief in a variety of ways....and it is a good story that will keep your interest no matter what genre you consider it to be!
What Is My Writing Process?
I am the type of writer who likes to write a whole bunch all at once. I am not very good at writing a little bit each day. I like to get fully immersed and come out with a story. This is why I can say I wrote my first novel in two weeks. I could also say I wrote it in three years. The two weeks occurred in November of 2010 and 2011. I went away for a week both years. I wrote all day every day for 6 days and I finished the whole book. The following November I took another week to revise it.
During those intensive writing weeks, I was totally in the zone until dinner time. At dinner time, I got dressed and went out to dinner with my husband. I was done for the day and let it go until the next morning. But while I was writing, the hours flew by and the words poured out. The story wrote itself and therein lies the role of INTUITIVE UNDERSTANDING in my writing.
I knew what the last scene in the book was going to be - I saw something very much like it in a dream years before. But I had no idea what was going to happen to get the story there. As characters came, did their things and left, I just trusted that it was all going to come together. As the story unfolded, I began to realize that there was a deeper purpose to the story. It was shaping me as much as I was shaping it. I was changed by writing it and I hope that a few people will be changed by reading it.
This was the first time I ever wrote fiction and it was a magical experience for me. I hope it happens again this way and I trust it will.
Why Do I Write What I Do?
Because the spirit moves me!
Please leave a comment about your experiences with intuitive understanding.
I am passing this interesting topic of Intuitive Understanding to three authors:
Sheri Bessi, Maria Salomao-Schmidt
Shortly after turning 16, Sheri had complications from a botched surgery and hemorrhaged until her heart stopped beating. For three minutes she experienced what many call a Near Death Experience. For her, though, it was not as many NDE's have been described. She did not see a beautiful bright light and thus she felt no beckoning to enter. She simply felt there. She heard a humming noise and sensed she was in a place full of dynamic energy, life and deep beauty. This experience changed her life, convincing her that spirit exists after the brain and body have separated from it through physical death. It also opened her to seeing and feeling the amazing miracle of life on earth each and every day.
This experience has influenced her career as a counselor, public speaker, and writer of a blog which is read by over 30,000 followers. Recently she completed her first book, "Dear Human, Letters to Humanity", which will be available by summer of 2015.
Former OPRAH WINFREY SHOW guest, Maria Salomão-Schmidt, MBA is a highly-sought after intuitive life/business coach, retreat leader and author. She was a Marketing/Public Relations corporate executive who worked with clients in Silicon Valley and East Cost of the United States, as well as in Europe, Middle East and Asia. The sudden death of her beloved daughter Sophia led her to become a Reiki Master Teacher and Full Spectrum Healer, as well as an expert in Neuro-Linguistic Programing (NLP) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Maria’s life mission is to connect ‘stuck’ people with their intuitive wisdom so they can unleash their life’s purpose! Her second book will be available summer of 2015.
Caroline Zani works as an intuitive medium and is the author of Piper, Once and Again - a novel of hope. She sees clients for readings, spiritual guidance, gatherings and teaches classes on intuition development.
